Service Warranty FAQ

Frequently Asked Warranty Questions at Ourisman Alexandria Kia

5 Year 60,000 mile factory warranty (Bulbs, battery and some audio components are not covered for entire length)

This warranty comes with the car and carries on whether or not you are the original owner. It covers most items subject to approval after inspection.

10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty (Only specific covered powertrain items covered)

This warranty covers the ORIGINAL OWNER ONLY and needs to be verified by name in Kia's database (we cannot see the original owners name). The list of components covered is very limited and will sometimes require Kia to approve repairs prior to completing.

Certified Pre-Owned Warranty (Must be purchased as certified pre-owned from Kia dealer and stays with purchaser only)

CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) warranties cover a wide range of items. Items covered under this warranty are subject to approval through Kia's online system. See your advisor for information. Sometime upfront diagnostic may need to approved, but are subsequently waived once coverage is confirmed.

Warranty Extensions (Only vehicles that have specific extensions are eligible for coverage)

  • Some vehicles may have warranty extensions for specific components (i.e. engine bearings, Steering couplers, HECU units, etc). These warranty extensions may cover a single specific part or an entire system. If you are eligible for coverage under an extension, you may still need to authorize diagnostic costs or additional parts needed for repairs.
  • Engine Extensions for Main Bearing Failures - These extensions may require diagnostic or parts not always covered by Kia. Rentals/Loaners are not always available at Ourisman Chantilly Kia and may not be provided during repair or diagnostic processes. Some engine repair procedures may require the customer to repair the vehicle prior to continuing coverage inquires. This may include past due maintenance or repair items such as spark plugs, repairing oil leaks, performing oil change to verify correctly installed filters, replacing bad fuel etc. Your service advisor will provide quotes for anything not covered under warranty.
  • Some extensions may require documentation of correct maintenance performed. All engine replacements require maintenance records to be approved by Kia.

Service Campaigns

Service campaigns are items for repair or improvement that the manufacturer has opted to fix, replace or update at no cost to the customer. These items are only done if at the dealer and are not a required or mandatory safety item. Service campaigns can have mileage limits or expiration dates to be performed. Some service campaigns may require an inspection and then for a part to be ordered. Some recalls may take more than one visit by KIA's design.

Service Recalls

These items are usually mandated and controlled by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). Kia will send letters or emails to the last known address on file with them. These items should be performed per the instructions provided by Kia. Some recalls may require an inspection and then for a part to be ordered. Some recalls may take more than one visit by Kia's design.
